The Importance of Year-Round Mental Health Awareness
As we’ve mentioned, we believe #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth is a priority throughout the year. Yet, during this month, it’s a time to practice organizational and/or strategic resilience to perform effectively and sustainably for the future.
Cultivating Trauma-Informed Leadership Teaching managers about the importance of becoming trauma-formed leaders is another strategy that could cultivate compassionate leadership. Becoming “trauma-informed” means that leaders can better recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in their team members, foster a safer place for healing, and promote resilience within their organizations. This type of training equips leaders with the empathy, emotional intelligence, and compassionate communication skills needed to navigate sensitive situations, ensuring ALL employees feel seen, heard, understood, and valued.
Resilience and Wellbeing Training Another strategy worth exploring is providing resilience and well-being training.
“Resilience is not a genetic trait. It is derived from the ways individuals learn to think and act when faced with obstacles. Thus, people can be trained to be more resilient. Research shows that training programs can have a positive effect on improving resilience and other mental health outcomes.” – The MHP Science of Resilience Technical Paper.

Creating a Safe Space “When people know they can bring their pain to the office, they no longer have to expend energy trying to ignore or suppress it, and they can more easily and effectively get back to work.” – Jane Dutton
By investing in trauma-informed leadership development, resilience training, and fostering a safe environment, organizations can support employee mental health and wellbeing. These initiatives promote a positive workplace culture, increased productivity, and a healthier, more resilient workforce.
